Welcome to our Quirky Bubba
Depending on their age, babies and children sleep up to 17 hours a day
(we know, it feels A LOT less than this!! -but this is the facts with a newborn)
While they sleep, children’s brains work to further their development and recharge by connecting synapses, rebuilding and nourishing cells, moving the day’s memories from short-term memory to long-term memory… AKA there’s A LOT happening when your bub is sleeping so we want them to be as comfortable as they can possibly be.

An essential part of your nursery, and the functionality of the cot is the mattress. We’ve listed some of the important things to consider when choosing a cot mattress...

In Australia there are a number of different cot mattress sizes. The most common, and the one referred to as ‘Standard’ is 130/132cm x 69/70cm and around 10-13cm thick. All Quirky Bubba Mattresses are of Standard Size.
If you’re researching cots, you might come across different size options that are perhaps bigger or smaller than the Australian Standard size. It’s important to note that major retailers such as Kmart, Target and Adairs make their linen to fit the standard size. If you purchase a mattress that is considerably bigger or smaller than Standard you will require speciality sheets that will cost you more money -this goes for oval shaped cots as well.
Having a Standard size mattress will save you time, money and frustration. As mentioned, each of the QB cot mattresses are Standard size, because our core belief is to provide you with a simple and affordable, yet high quality nursery.

Just like a mattress you would buy for yourself, cot mattresses are available in varying degrees of firmness. Baby cot mattresses need to be of a semi-firm nature so that the baby doesn’t create a dip in the mattress where they may become stuck.
The other important thing to consider is that bub’s growing spine needs support. Each of the 3 mattresses we have available at Quirky Bubba are purposefully firm enough to ensure your baby’s safety and correct development.

What's Inside.

There are many types of mattresses on the market today; innerspring, foam, memory foam and pocket spring to name just a few… In the 10+ years that we’ve been in this business, innerspring is our preferred type for durability, affordability and comfort.

Some parents aren’t into innerspring because they push hard with their adult arms and can feel the spring, it’s important to note that the weight of a baby / toddler will never be heavy enough to feel the spring like you might when you press on it. However, our Luxury Mattress, made from advanced new technology, is perfect for parents who don’t like the feel of innerspring.
One of the benefits of our innerspring mattress is that it’s waterproof on one side and fabric on the other, this is great if you want a ‘built in’ mattress protector. In saying this, we very much recommend ALL mattresses are covered with a mattress protector. Firstly because you can rotate the side of the mattress, and secondly because babies are capable of some pretty hectic “accidents” haha.

Whether your mattress is made from organic fabrics is something you’ll want to consider when choosing which mattress is right for you. Some of the benefits of an organic mattress are:
Mould resistant
Chemical free (including no fire retardant chemicals)
Naturally fire retardant
Cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter
Eco-friendly, made from biodegradable materials
Organic Mattresses can be slightly more expensive than a regular cotton mattress.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a regular cotton mattress -they are still made from safe and breathable materials.
It all depends on your values and budget.
